Collagen-Filler Injection Associated Dermopathy and COVID-19

COVID-19 and cosmetic skin-fillers are two prevalent topics of today’s medicine, yet their interaction is not sufficiently studied. This article based on a clinico-morphological case where the patient, 37-year-old female, visited clinic with complaints painless palpable subcutaneous pathologic nodular lesions at site collagen filler injection after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. In order to verify pathological processes lesions, punch biopsy affected skin was taken, histological, histochemical, immunohistochemical studies were conducted. Atrophy, acanthosis, parakeratosis vacuolisation nuclei epidermis; sclerosis abnormal deposition fibres in subepithelial layer dermis; vasculitis endothelial hypertrophy lymphoid perivascular infiltration (CD3 lymphocytes CD68 macrophages) found. Spike nuclear capsid proteins localised cells inflammatory infiltrates, cells, epithelium glands epidermis skin. The association between dermatopathy virus infection fillers established. authors discuss hypothesise possible autoimmune that lead vasculitis.
